No Cooling at All
Lights On

Lights are working (and therefore there is power). The refrigerator is dead and not cooling. Double check that all controls are on; even look in the freezer compartment.

Next check the following:

  1. Rap the cold control with your knuckle. If the refrigerator magically comes to life replace the cold control.

  2. Locate the defrost clock and advance it 1/4 turn. Again, if the refrigerator magically comes to life, replace the defrost clock.

At this point power is confirmed and the refrigerator is not in automatic defrost. Chances are the compressor is getting power, but for some undetermined reason, it is not cooling. Get behind the refrigerator and remove the cardboard condenser cover.

  3. Check for blockage of the cooling fan motor or a lint clogged condenser ( the black coils underneath) and correct as needed.

  4. Is the compressor hot or cold to the touch?

    Cold Hot
