No Cooling at All Lights On Cold Compressor Compressor Fails on Test
If the compressor:
- fails to run on the test cord;
- only runs for a few minutes and then quits; or
- runs but doesn't cool;
then there is a freon system problem and you are in big
trouble. (See Freon System Failures in Manual 7: Refrigerators and
Freezers.) Few system repairs make economic sense. A rare
exception is SubZero because a new refrigerator may cost
$2500.00-3000.00.
Note: Since about, 1985 GE has had a major problem with a
redesigned compressor. The high pressure side is prone to clogging and
causes intermittent and poor cooling. These refrigerators can be
identified by brown colored door seals. GE has extended their normal
5-year warranty to a pro-rata 10 year warranty on these models. Many
GE employees are unaware of this warranty and deny its existence. If
you encounter such a problem and feel it may be under warranty call GE
at (800) 662-1286 or call Uncle Harry for the latest GE 800 phone
numbers.
