No Water in the Mold
Audible Hum from Water Valve

There are four reasons for an absence of water even though the valve can be heard:

  1. A frozen spout where the water enters the freezer lining.
  2. A clog or shut off in the water supply.
  3. A faulty valve, even though the coil is good.
  4. A break in the plastic line between the valve to the icemaker. The water may be flowing onto the floor or into the drain pan and no one has noticed.

By far the most frequent cause of Condition 1-A is a frozen inlet spout. Before pulling out the refrigerator to inspect the valve, loosen the icemaker and visually check the spout. If it is clogged, thaw it out or see the procedures from the section on dripping water valves in Manual 9: Icemakers. If it appears open, pull out the refrigerator and use the following test procedure (discussed in Manual 9: Icemakers).

Test Procedure for Testing the Water Valve and Supply Lines.

  1. Partially loosen the inlet water valve fitting and test for water. If none, or only a small amount, is evident trace the water supply line.
  2. Position the valve over a bucket.
  3. Connect a test cord to the suspect solenoid.
  4. Plug the test cord into house current.
  5. If water flows into the bucket, locate and correct the clog or break on the plastic line to the icemaker.
  6. If no water flows into the bucket replace the valve.
