Completely dead (no motor or timer noise).

Power from the line cord is connected directly to the timer and relayed to various components. With a dead washer, check for:

  1. No power at the supply receptacle.

  2. Damaged line cord.

  3. Check power incoming at the timer and then leaving. This will require use of a circuit diagram often found glued to the washer or tucked in an envelope. Circuit analysis may require studying Manual 5: Electricity Made Simple, a part of the Program.

There are specific helpful hints given on dead washers under each brand. For instance, Maytag prior to the late 80's wired the lid safety switch into the incoming power. A bad lid switch causes a completely dead washer.
