Makes strange noises.

Noises are largely specific to each brand. They are best located by removing assess covers and trying out different cycles. Noises can come from:

  1. Foreign objects spinning in the pump or between the clothes basket and outer tub (a scraping or squealing sound: Whirlpool and GE.)

  2. Worn clutch shoes (a grinding of sheet metal sound: GE).

  3. Worn belts (thumping: Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and Maytag)

  4. Worn main bearing (a roaring or heavy grinding: Norge, Whirlpool, GE and Maytag)

  5. Worn of broken transmission gears (banging or clunking: GE)

For further information or brand-specific information consult our automatic washer manuals.
