Washer Leaking oil or water.
Finding minor amounts of oil and water under a washer is
normal and can be ignored. However, a large puddle is a major problem
and often means a new washer. (There is an exception for GE washers;
see Manual 3: Automatic Washers,
Part 3)
Water leaks are common and are caused by a:
Leaking pump - Whirlpool.
Leaking outer tub - Whirlpool.
Leaking water inlet system - Maytag.
Leaking hoses - all brands.
Oil leaks only come from a bad transmission seal and mean
a new transmission or a new washer. Oil leaks only occur on GE and
Maytag. Leaks are easily found with good lighting and careful
observation. Each brand has its own special weak spots and repair
techniques.
