Income expectations

It is likely that you have had the dubious pleasure of calling in a professional repair technician. It's funny, but I often get calls from those who have recently been irritated by paying for a service call. To many customers, appliance work looks awfully easy (in fact it is), is performed very quickly, and the prices seem ridiculous. It isn't hard to count up the money that a technician makes.

Following is an accounting of one of my actual days. It is a pretty typical technician day, but way below my highs (I hit $900.00 a few times a year).

    Charge Profit
First Call: 8:30 AM Reset breaker on electric cooktop $48.00 $48.00
Second Call: 10:00 AM Install pump on Kenmore washer $135.00 $120.00
Third Call: 11:30 AM Clean air gap on dishwasher $70.00 $70.00
Fourth Call: 1:30 PM Install water valve on washer $105.00 $97.00
Fifth Call: 3:00 PM Install defrost clock on refrigerator $138.00 $128.00
Last Call: 4:30 PM Replace broken dryer belt $95.00 $90.00
Profit for the day $553.00

Incidentally, many men and women often start out part-time, working evenings or on weekends. It's also an ideal way to supplement a retirement income. If you prefer working for a company, completing the program may enable you to get an excellent high paying job.

In the appliance repair industry, as in most technical service fields, the hourly rate is between $50.00 and $80.00. In addition, the minimum charge for a house call nationwide is about $50.00. A house call, or service charge, is added to the hourly charge along with a high markup on parts installed! These high rates reflect the high overhead and inherent inefficiencies in all large corporations. By comparison, an individual with virtually no overhead (especially running your company the way Uncle Harry advises) can be competitive, still charge the same high rates, and pocket a much greater profit margin than a national company.

If you have any doubt that these figures are accurate, call me for a testimonial package at (1-800-958-4430) and talk to those already in the business.
