It is not necessary to completely remove the front of a GE dryer in order to install a new belt. Open the top and tilt it backward. Remove the two top screws, tilt the front forward and roll the belt around the drum. |

Lift the drum slightly to clear
the front supports. It may be necessary to open the door and help the belt fall to the bottom of the basket. |

Align the belt into the correct position before threading it through the idler and motor pulley. |

A GE dryer belt must be threaded looking in from the back. It is not possible for anyone-except those with very skinny arms- to get past the drum in the front. It takes strong fingers to thread it with one hand. |

This is a view of another model that threads essentially the same way. The first model uses the flexed bar as a spring; the second actually uses a spring. Eliminating the spring is a more recent design.
