To check out a
dryer that runs but has no heat remove the back and test the wires to
the element with a 220 volt AC meter. Run the dryer with the meter
attached and check for voltage. Usually there will be 220 VAC present
but no heat indicating a bad element. |
|
It is not necessary to lift the top to access the element retaining screw. Reach
up underneath with a stubby 5/16" nut driver, feel for the screw head and
remove it. |
|
With one screw removed and the wires off the
element and the housing come out together. |
|
Another 5/16" screw holds the element in the
housing. Slide it out for inspection. Don't be concerned if the new element
looks different from the old. Many changes have been made in different models
but they all work fine! |
|
Once the element is out, it is always interesting
to locate the precise failure and even show it to your customer. When
reinstalling the housing reach inside and feel for the hole in the back plate to
guide the screw into the hole. It's easy after a few tries and saves time.
(There is even a large drilled hole in the back panel for sissies using a a long
nutdriver.) |
